Fable Creator Wants The Next Game To Have Rideable Dragons

There may be mixed feelings about the next title within the Fable franchise going to an entirely different team, but there’s still hope in revitalizing such a classic. Since Microsoft has taken the reigns, Playground Games was appointed caretaker, a London-based studio that created the Forza Horizon racing series. With the next title now in development, original Fable creator Peter Molyneux can’t help, but throw in a couple ideas.

Speaking on the setting of Fable, Molyneux believes that the game should take place in a much more natural yet unforgiving environment. He hopes to see more a “brutal, visceral and fluid combat system” as well.

The Fable story hinted at a dramatic time before Fable 1 when the Guild was founded, this would be a perfect setting for Fable 4. The land of Albion would be much more primitive, the magic much more attuned to nature, the combat much more brutal.”

Despite all that, there are other additions that the Fable creator would like added to the game and make it all the more enjoyable. Bringing in such aspects as a familiar, a rideable dragon, or a customizable home. In fact, Molyneux said even a goldfish could help with magic and bonds as a familiar. Whatever tickles your fancy.

Molyneux has an imaginative mind and high hopes for the future of the franchise. According to the Fable creator, seeing an alignment that changes with the player’s action would be interesting to see. In theory, the player could “morph their own alignment based on their actions — so you would become a thief if you sneak and steal, or a knight if you adhere to a code of honor”.

Fable Franchise

Playground Games is currently collaborating with Microsoft on Fable 4, and have carved out a heavy budget for its development. Not long ago, the team even acquired a building suitable for 200 personnel. Though this is the very first role-playing game they will have taken on, Playground isn’t afraid to pull out all the stops.

What do you think about a small studio like this taking on a classic series such as this?
