Nintendo Switch Pro Model Under Development, According To New Report

If a new report is to believe, it looks like a Nintendo Switch Pro model is under development. Since the hybrid platform launched in March 2017, Nintendo released a more affordable lite option that took the dock out of the equation.

Rumors recently surfaced claimed an impending Nintendo Switch Pro model is under development and may even compete with the likes of PS5 and Xbox One Series X this year. According to Metro, however, that’s unlikely to be the case. Thanks to a claim based in Korea, the new model will partner up with Nvidia and make use of their Volta architecture GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).

Unfortunately for those following this trail, that means a 4K Nintendo Switch is unlikely. The report originated in Taiwan, but thanks to the aforementioned claim, here is the latest suggestion: “Aside from the new switch, an improved process battery, the rumor is that Switch Pro is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. The difference with previous rumors is that Nintendo will not adopt an additional clocked up version of Tegrax1 +.

“Nintendo’s partner sources say that there is a custom processor that Nintendo is currently working with Nvidia, but Taiwan’s information says it’s not yet time to start mass production. In other words, it may be difficult to release in the fourth quarter of this year, and unlike rumors, 4k support or such a big performance industry should not expect. However, there are rumors that the GPU of a custom processor that is currently working together will be upgraded to Volta based on news from the US.”

With all that said, reports like these should be taken with a grain of salt. Since a statement has not been made by Nintendo officially, it’s hard saying these rumors have a semblance of truth. However, with the coming of the next generation in gaming consoles, Nintendo’s left to compete with high performance home consoles. If the timeline of a holiday 2020 release holds true, time will tell what the Japanese company has up their sleeves later this year.

Do you think the rumors of the Nintendo Switch Pro will prove to be true? Do you think Nintendo will step it up and provide the 4K graphics everyone is hoping for?
