These Game Boy Air Jordans Will Have You Playing With Power (GALLERY)
Custom sneakers are a world all their own these days and they often take on elaborate designs based on various avenues of pop culture. These flashy footwear are surely no stranger to the realm of gaming, having produced works based on titles such as Overwatch and Pokemon in the past. It seems as though consoles themselves aren’t entirely off the table either as evident by a recently unveiled pair of Game Boy Air Jordans.
Produced by specialty shoe manufacturer Freaker Sneaks, a new set of Nintendo-themed Air Jordan IV sneakers have been released, each bearing a nostalgic look reminiscent of the brand’s handheld gaming console. Covered with a familiar gray color scheme, the exterior of the shoes are decorated with various graphics and embedded buttons, with each tongue noticeably sporting old-school imagery from the game Super Mario Land.
Game Boy Air Jordans would present a seemingly random crossover, but the two are more connected than one would realize. The Air Jordan IV sneaker and Nintendo’s original Game Boy (as well as Super Mario Land) debuted in 1989, with this year marking both cultural touchstones’ 29th anniversary.
Participating in this cool piece of commemoration is definitely not for the shallow-pocketed, as the price tag for these Game Boy Air Jordan IVs are about as sky high as His Air-ness himself. Those with $1350 to spare can pick these bad boys up, but may have trouble as the limited edition product is only producing 10 sets on the official Freaker Sneaks website.
