Newest Overwatch PTR Features More Significant Hero Changes
PC gamers can now expect a new PTR (public test realm) patch for the game Overwatch, which is currently in the middle of a special Halloween event. Geoff Goodman, lead designer for Overwatch, started a general discussion on battle.net explaining the new PTR. He explains that they’re doing things “a little different” this time around.
“Previously we’ve been using the PTR, first and foremost, to make sure the game is solid and there aren’t any heinous issues that would prevent us from releasing the patch. There was a nice secondary goal of gathering feedback on any changes we’re planning and trying to iterate on them quickly, but we didn’t always have time to try multiple different iterations of any particular change… This time around, the PTR is likely to be around a bit longer than before, so we’re taking this opportunity to try out some more significant hero changes, and the push more significant iterations throughout this PTR cycle.”
Goodman continues to talk about how the Overwatch team wants to, “try a bunch of things and see whats fun and working”, so that the fans can be more involved in the process than before. Unfortunately Symmetra will not be included this time since, “Her changes ended up being much more significant and require more time to finish up”, but he hopes to get the new her out soon. Goodman primarily handles hero design and previously worked on games like World of Warcraft and later on Titan. There is not a set date and time for this patch just yet, but they are hoping for sometime later this week and ask for as much feedback as possible.
