Overwatch Update Brings Deathmatch and More to PC, PS4, and Xbox One! – Here’s the Details

Finally, the console players have a chance to rejoice alongside the PC master race as the new Overwatch update brings Deathmatch to all! Every player will now have two new Deathmatch modes, as well as some other great changes.

Gamers around the globe have wished for a Deathmatch mode on Overwatch since the beginning and babes, your wish has been granted! The normal free-for-all mode has 8 players going up against each other to be the very first to get 20 points. To receive a point, they must get the last shot on another player, but if you accidentally kill yourself or die from environmental damage, like falling off a cliff (GUILTY), you end up losing a point.

Team Deathmatch mode is a little different. Instead of every man for himself, it consists of 2 teams of 4 players trying to reach 30 points. In this mode, resurrections will take a point away from the OTHER team, but the same rules of losing a point for killing yourself apply.

Thanks to the new Overwatch update, players can access these new Deathmatch modes through Custom Games and although they can be played on some of the existing maps, there are a few that can only be used for the Team Deathmatch. Blizzard even adjusted some maps to fit better with the modes and the current map rotation is below:

  • Hanamura
  • Horizon Lunar Colony
  • Volskaya Industries
  • Temple of Anubis
  • Eichenwalde
  • Dorado
  • Hollywood
  • King’s Row
  • Chateau Guillard

Team Deathmatch Only:

  • Castillo
  • Black Forest
  • Ecopoint: Antarctica
  • Necropolis

Chateau Guillard is a brand new map, exclusively for the Deathmatch modes, that was added with the new Overwatch update. Blizzard described the new map as the “ancestral home” of Widowmaker:

“Chateau Guillard is located near Annecy in southeastern France. For hundreds of years, it was the estate of the influential Guillard family, until it gradually fell into disrepair after the family’s power waned in the decades after the Revolution. Recently, the chateau has found a new owner: the Talon agent Widowmaker, who has returned to her family’s ancestral home.”

Included in this new Overwatch update are changes to Junkrat, Orisa, Roadhog, and Widowmaker. They also changed things to do with competitive play and skill ratings, all of which are detailed in the full patch notes here! Are you excited for Deathmatch!?
