Netflix Reportedly Expanding Their Reach In Video Games
Netflix has dabbled with mixed media before with the likes of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. They’ve also created games based on popular shows, such as Stranger Things and Money Heist, and it looks like have big plans on expanding their reach into video games.
According to a report by The Information, Netflix discussed their game bundle option and dove further into the topic of interactive entertainment and their search for an executive that could further their expansion into the territory of video games. The Information mentioned, that it is “a sign it is stepping up its efforts to grow beyond traditional filmed entertainment, according to people familiar with the situation.”
“Our members value the variety and quality of our content,” Netflix said in a statement. “It’s why we’ve continually expanded our offering – from series to documentaries, film, local language originals and reality TV. Members also enjoy engaging more directly with stories they love – through interactive shows like Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games based on Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel and To All the Boys. So we’re excited to do more with interactive entertainment.”
It sounds like Netflix has big plans to expand their reach into video games, or “interactive entertainment.” The aforementioned projects were just the beginning!
