Mortal Kombat Movie Casts Liu Kang, Jax, Raiden, And Mileena

Mortal Kombat Movie Reveals New Casting Details

A movie based on the wildly violent Mortal Kombat fighting game series has been in the works for a while now and though the project has taken numerous forms over the years, the latest effort from producer James Wan, director Simon McQuoid, and writer Greg Russo looking to offer the most promising iteration of the adaptation yet. That being said, the Mortal Kombat movie has remained largely under wraps for the duration of pre-production, but it appears more official casting information has now come forward.

According to THR, several huge roles for the Mortal Kombat movie have now been filled–confirming actor Mehcad Brooks (Supergirl) as metal-armed officer Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Tadanobu Asano (Thor series) as thunder god Raiden, and newcomer Sisi Stringer as vengeful pink ninja Mileena. The outlet additionally confirms actor Ludi Lin (2017’s Power Rangers) is currently in talks to portray Liu Kang, corroborating the Shaolin Monk’s casting in an initial report by Variety.

The aforementioned fighting foursome joins the Mortal Kombat movie alongside another casting in Joe Taslim (The Raid), who plays the series’ iconic ivy blue ninja Sub Zero. This deliberately diverse and martial arts-adjacent cast was reportedly chosen by New Line Cinema to reflect the global popularity of NetherRealm’s fighting franchise, keeping in line with official casting calls that went public back in June.

Though the plot for the upcoming adaptation continues to remain secret, several pieces of information have offered the slightest taste of things to come. Not only will the theatrical release obtain an R-rating, but the series gory Fatality finishers are also set to be featured, pointing toward a pretty faithful adaptation in the works. Several other characters from the games and potential actor castings have also been hinted in the past, though in a much less official capacity.

The Mortal Kombat movie is set to release in theaters on March 5th, 2021.
