WATCH: Microsoft Gives Back To A Boy That Gave Up His Xbox In The Name Of Charity

Tis the season of good intentions, well wishes, and just being good to each other (shouldn’t that be all the time?). When one child took hit upon himself to do his own good deed for other, the already heartwarming tale got even sweeter when Microsoft responded in-kind.

Nine year old Mikah Frye from Ohio set a phenomenal example when he put his own desires aside to do a little good. What Frye wanted the most this Christmas was an Xbox One, but when he realised that money could do some real good out there – he quickly shifted his focus. Instead of requesting his own piece of this generation of gaming, he gave up his new console to buy 60 blankets to donate to charity to help the less fortunate. A sweet move, and one that could be seen as difficult for most children, but he did it anyway. That selfless act was one that is admirable, and one that also came back in some lovely Karma for the child.

When the local news station Fox 8 caught wind of the story, Microsoft was instantly aware of the deed – and they wanted to respond with their own act of spreading good cheer. That’s when young Mikah became the recipient of a brand new Minecraft Xbox One S bundle, which … his reaction? We’re not crying, you’re crying … (we’re totally crying).

In a world where every story is drenched with fear, anger, dread – and even the gaming community is going through its own voliatile reactions, it’s nice to see stories like this. It’s the perfect example that we all need to be good to one another, that there is more to life than just what our immediate wants. It may be a small gesture, but even the smallest ripples can have amazing effects. So here’s to you, Mikah, and we hope that those blankets spread the warmth you intended.

Navy Veteran with a penchant for the FPS genre, Chewy has all aspects of the gaming community covered. Don't expect to see him on a console any time soon, however - though he has experience in all platforms, the PC Master Race has a firm hold on him.
