Mega Man Live Action Movie In The Works, Confirms Capcom

Among the slew of other announcements within the games industry in recent months, one of Capcom’s most classic properties is getting the Hollywood live action movie treatment, Mega Man. With Pokemon, Lilo & Stitch, and Sonic the Hedgehog and in the works, there’s a ton to look forward to in the coming future. This may be especially true for younger and prospective fans.

Capcom will be working with 20th Century Fox for distribution, meanwhile Chernin Entertainment will be producing it alongside Heroes star, Masi Oka. The live-action adaptation will be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, both of which worked on the likes of Paranormal Activity 3 and 4, as well as the TV show Catfish.

According to a press release, Capcom wants to appeal to a wider audience and reach out further than just the gaming community. They want to build upon the fanbase that already exists.

Based on the influential and globally beloved Mega Man franchise, Capcom aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Mangames, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.”

The success of Mega Man over the years makes this direction for the franchise an easy move to make. Debuting in 1987, the series rapidly evolved into one of Capcom’s largest properties with overall sales of 32 million units globally as of June this year. That’s thirty years of history since the series launched, and the creators want to continue the legacy for years to come.

Based on the production team hired on for the Mega Man live-action film so far, what kind of feel do you think it will have?
