Marvel's Avengers Leak Reveals New Story, Gameplay Details

As Square Enix recently confirmed an appearance from their Marvel’s Avengers project for E3 2019, fans are speculating more than ever about what the upcoming superhero title could offer. While not much of the game been revealed in an official capacity, there’s surely plenty in an unofficial sense, the latest being a new leak revealing new potential information about the game’s story and gameplay.

According to a post on ResetEra, a user has claimed to have a bevy of major details regarding Marvel’s Avengers, suggesting a large-scale adventure rooted in Marvel Comics lore. As the game’s original 2017 announcement teases, the leak reveals the Avengers will be disbanded following a “catastrophic” event, the main story following the team’s eventual resurgence. At the center of the campaign is said to be Kamala Khan, Marvel’s current Ms. Marvel, who is to “play an integral role in reassembling the team.”

The post professes “early on in the game,” Marvel’s Avengers will introduce a lineup including “Ms. Marvel, Iron Man and Hulk,” with up to four players able to control these varied characters. This tidbit may be telling as it lines up with a recent reveal that Marvel’s Avengers will have a co-op mode at launch. Conversely, those interested in going the solo route are in luck, as the game additionally houses single-player play with remaining team members controlled through AI.

As for the game’s world, the post describes a “Kingdom Hearts-like” level design, with “multiple large worlds” that are touted to be massive enough to “accomodate flight based characters.” A “Crashed Helicarrier” is premised to act as players’ hub area, suggesting these new Avengers will take part in a devastating event of their own. Leveling-up in the game was revealed to be unlike a “typical looter shooter,” suggesting loot is “mostly powers based” with focus going towards building character skill trees rather than collecting varied drops.

All this certainly seems interesting, especially as the leak suggests a pretty unique outing for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, it should be noted that none of this information has been officially corroborated, making this yet another “take with grain of salt” scenario. The good news is we won’t have too long to wait for official word, as little over a week remains until Square Enix takes the stage at E3 2019.

Marvel’s Avengers is currently in development.
