League Of Legends eSports Series Coming To Paramount Plus
The streaming wars have only grown and allowed for more competitors in the streaming space over the past few years. The biggest services have all leaned into creating exclusive original content to entice subscribers to join and stay with their services. The video game industry and culture have proven to be a big part of this strategy, with adaptations of video games like Fallout and The Witcher getting big-budget series and projects like Mythic Quest taking place in fictional game studios. Now, it seems that a new League of Legends eSports comedy series is the latest videogame-related streaming project to be greenlit.
As reported by Deadline, Paramount has greenlit a new series titled ‘Players’ coming to their Paramount Plus streaming service. The series will follow a fictional eSports team that primarily plays the hit MOBA game League of Legends. Creating the show and serving as executive producers are Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creators behind the hit Netflix comedy true crime parody series American Vandal. Paramount has given the following synopsis of the series:
“PLAYERS is a comedic documentary-style series that follows a fictional pro League of Legends esports team, as they pursue their first championship after years of close calls and heartache. To win it all, they will need their prodigy, a 17-year-old rookie, and their 27-year-old veteran to put their egos aside and work together.”
The show will be produced under CBS Studios and Funny Or Die, and Riot Games’ Tim McAuliffe will also be on-hand to supervise the representation of the real-world gaming series. Little else about the series has been confirmed, including casting information, but this is, of course, not the only video game-related project coming to Paramount Plus. The live-action Halo series is set to premiere on the service as well. With so many talented people on board, this League of Legends eSports series is bound to be a bigger hit than K/DA is in the pop scene.
