Beavis And Butt-Head Return To ‘Do The Universe’ In New Movie Trailer

Beavis And Butt-Head Do the Universe

As Paramount Plus aims to take on its mouse-eared competition in the streaming wars, the company appears to be reaching into the realm of gaming as well as the nostalgia pit of the 90s to boost up its subscriber base. Regarding the latter, a revival for the animated slacker duo Beavis and Butt-Head has been in the cards for multiple years now, and it appears the iconic Mike Judge creation is preparing to re-debut through the premiere of an all-new movie.

Titled ‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe,’ the high-profile film looks to be a sequel of sorts to the satirically idiotic original series and big-screen road-trip movie Beavis And Butt-Head Do America. A new trailer for the revival looks packed with all the delightfully juvenile humor fans expect, with the boys somehow getting themselves shot into space and demonstrating their without-fail tendency to fall back into messy situations – but this time in zero gravity.

However, in a seeming homage to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, the teenage metalheads eventually end up drifting too close to a supermassive black hole, pulling them decades into the future – the year of our lord 2022 to be exact. As one might surmise, this wrinkle in time unleashes all sorts of shenanigans onto the timeline, including visits from multiple versions of Beavis and Butt-Head themselves, namely, super-advanced iterations from the far future as well as the duo’s middle-aged counterparts from 2022.

Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe only marks the beginning of the giggling idiots’ return, as the animated Mike Judge comedy is also getting a 2-season TV show revival for Paramount Plus as well. Judge is attached to write, produce, and voice the titular twosome’s adventures as they navigate and lampoon modern Gen Z culture, just as they did with Generation X back in the 90s. It’s unknown how exactly the show might justify its current-day setting, but the movie’s explicit time travel antics are likely to play a role.

Beavis And Butt-Head Do the Universe

Though Beavis and Butt-Head originally went off the air in 1997 (and once again in 2011), the snickering slackers’ legacy has continued through two spin-off projects, Daria and spiritual successor King of the Hill – both of which are also gearing up revivals in the future. While Hank Hill’s return is heavily rumored (for now), Daria is officially on the way back in the form of a spin-off film called Jodie, focusing on the monotone teen’s high school friend as she navigates post-grad life. Whether more could spring from this is likely dependent on these projects’ successes.

Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe premieres on Paramount Plus on June 23rd.
