Kojima Productions Celebrates 5-Year Anniversary With New Merch, No Game Reveals

When Kojima Productions announced its 5-year anniversary celebration, fans of Hideo Kojima’s studio rejoiced at the prospect of a potential game reveal, mayhaps even an announcement of Death Stranding 2. Unfortunately that’s not what we got, with the developer’s social media pages instead unveiling a fancy new wallpaper featuring the studio’s logo and, of course, a new batch of purchasable merchandise commemorating the event.

Slated to kick off at 11pm CT, when the hour was reached Kojima Productions issued a small announcement saying that they would “see you in one hour!”, further delaying the start of the event. Just after midnight the studio welcomed everybody back with the aforementioned new wallpaper and a Q&A session featuring Yoji Shinkawa, the designer of the studio’s logo. The tweet that followed was the reveal of a new set of 5th anniversary merchandise, and by that time the crowd was ornery enough that Kojima Productions felt the need to send out a reply tweet simply stating that there wouldn’t be any game announcements tonight.

Fans were rather ticked off about the proceedings, with many expressing their confusion and frustration over all the hype surrounding an event that was ultimately the studio patting itself on the back and saying “hey, come buy our stuff!” The event itself may have been a disappointment, but the response memes should at least lessen the blow:

That Cyberpunk 2077 dig aside, the Kojima Productions 5th anniversary merchandise is actually pretty neat, so if you’re a fan of the studio, Death Stranding, or just Hideo Kojima in general then you may want to check it out.
