Hideo Kojima Gave the Most Kojima Response When Asked About Death Stranding’s Progress
This weekend held the inaugural Tribeca Games Festival that took place in New York and during that time, Hideo Kojima answered a few questions from the press, including from moderator Geoff Keighley. When asked about the progress on one of the most confusingly anticipatory games coming out in the near future, Death Stranding, Kojima answered in the way only he seems to do: with analogies and teasers that make no sense to fans but keep us begging for more anyway.
At first he started out by talking about Death Stranding’s progress in the vague way that many anticipated, with a simple “it’s going well,” but after a confusing analogy involving Norman’s character and New York that had actually nothing to do with the game’s setting, he tried again:
We’re trying to see if what we can depict with the Decima Engine actually looks like New York, if it scales correctly and feels good there. Let’s say the character goes to an Italian restaurant. Who the character meets is going into the restaurant, what he will be eating, all those details are decided and set.”
Uh …
What we’re working on right now is what kind of table will be there, what kind of specific details will be there, what’s on the specific menu for this restaurant.”
One thing that people respect about Hideo Kojima is his outlook on his work and his vision. After a little maneuvering, it’s clear that they are very much just testing if their vision matches their realistic capability, which is admirable. Being his first huge title launching his own studio, there is a lot riding on a flawless execution for what he wants his business to represent and produce.
As far as specifics concerning Death Stranding, there are many theories (a few you can see below), but nothing concrete and with no real way to tell where exactly this project is at this point in time. Perhaps we will see more a this year’s E3 in June, perhaps another surprising reveal with a cryptic new trailer. Time will tell, hopefully a little more clearly than his responses thus far.
