King Of Fighters XV Teaser, First Details Revealed By SNK (VIDEO)
Announced back in 2018, the next entry in SNK’s signature KOF fighting game series was confirmed to be coming in the form of King of Fighters XV, though, little information has been offered about the title since. However, the game’s long-standing silence was finally broken over the past month, with a formal reveal event scheduled to take place at the very start of January. After a pandemic-related delay, it appears SNK has finally given fans a small taste of what’s to come in the form of a new teaser.
Spanning less than a minute, the first King of Fighters XV footage teases quite a bit about the upcoming release, showcasing the game’s vibrant presentation and confirming the inclusion of several mainstay characters such as Shun’ei, Benimaru Nikaido, and Mai Shiranui. The footage ends with confirmation that more information will be revealed sometime next week. In addition to the brief trailer, creative director Eisuke Ogura dropped a few details regarding the fighting title in a follow-up video message, assuring the upcoming entry would retain the “fast-paced” and “exciting” atmosphere the series is known for and would receive a few modern visual and performance tweaks.
We’re able to do things now for both sound and visuals that were impossible back when developing XIV, so we’re taking our time making sure each element is refined. Right now, we’re focusing on brushing up features and optimizing the game. Though I expect some obstacles to get in our way, we’re planning to have it ready to ship this year.”
Though these new King of Fighters XV details aren’t the most surprising of revelations, it appears fans won’t have too long before more footage arrives. In addition, Ogura added that “another trailer” can be expected to drop as soon as next week, with additional news planned to roll out “periodically” from there on out. Though much of the game is still currently a mystery, the promise of incoming details is sure to be a welcome presence for fans, especially as SNK often goes months without a word about KOF XV.
Also revealed in the video, SNK announced the series’ previous entry King of Fighters XIV is set to receive an all-inclusive Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 4 on January 20th. All add-on content from the 2016 fighter is set to be part of the collection, including all 8 DLC characters, 10 additional costumes, as well as a set of 10 PlayStation themes. In addition, The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, a 2009 remake of the 2002 original, was also confirmed to release “soon” on PS4, with the updated port touting the largest roster in series history as well as rollback netcode for a more modern online experience.
