A Job Listing Suggests Final Fantasy 16 May Already Be in Development
With Square Enix scoring a much needed win for the Final Fantasy series with the massively successful Final Fantasy XV, it makes sense for the Japanese publisher to look to the future of the franchise, and begin work on what will inevitably be called Final Fantasy 16. That said, based on a recent job listing found on Japanese job recruitment site ECareerFA, it is possible that Square Enix’s latest entry in the series may already be in development.
The job listing in question, which can be found here, calls for a 2D art designer for a “super famous RPG series” whose main task is to draw up character, background, and material images for “a certain RPG’s numbered title.” The work will include art work for “everything related to the background” of the game such as vehicles, weapons, items and map icons. The 2D artist will be tasked with drawing up and rendering images in order to pass the work along to a 3D designer for production. The anonymous ad then states that the artist would be working for a company that “everyone admires” and that they are “game makers with a popular series.” The job description concludes by stating that “we sent out a huge hit RPG game [in]to the world,” and that they have also created online games around “popular game software titles.”
With all of the above seemingly pointing to a job posting for Final Fantasy 16, the location of the company’s headquarters is what really slams the final nail into the coffin. According to the ad, the company is located in Tokyo, Japan, one minute from the Higashi-Shinjuku station of the Oedo Line and Fukutoshin Line, as well as eight minutes from both the JR Yamanote Line and the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. So, which Japanese publisher’s headquarters fits these parameters? You guessed it – Square Enix.
They have made no official statement thus far about its existence, this is currently all speculation. Hopefully once E3 2017 rolls around this June, Square Enix will be able to produce something, anything that would suggest that FFXVI is on its way. Until then, we can only hope that more job listings like this one will appear to hint at the possible future of the series.
So, what are your thoughts on the anonymous job listing? Do you agree that it sounds as if Square Enix is hiring for a Final Fantasy game?
