Injustice Movie Announced By Warner Bros. Animation

Mortal Kombat may be all the rage these days due to the recent live-action adaptation, but it looks like NetherRealm’s sister franchise Injustice may now be getting a movie as well. Announced in a particularly roundabout manner, an animated Injustice movie was confirmed to be on the way from Warner Bros. Animation, with the reveal taking place in a press release for another movie entirely.

As per the recently-announced special features for DC’s animated Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two (via SYFY Wire), the July-releasing Blu-ray disc will include a sneak peek at the imprint’s next upcoming project, describing the showcase as featuring “an advanced look at Injustice.” While this is far from the official announcement Warner Bros. may have been planning, the cat looks to be very much out of the bag for the Injustice movie.

Set in an alternate reality, Injustice presents a very violent version of the traditional DC universe, with the normally benevolent Superman now depicted as a homicidal dictator bent on mercilessly murdering all criminals. The dystopian world becomes the stage for a superhero clash of the ages, with Superman’s evil generals carrying out his brutal vision of world peace, and Batman assembling a rebellion against the Kryptonian’s totalitarian Regime.

Considering the recent rise of mature comic adaptions like Invincible and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the idea of an Injustice movie is certainly intriguing, with NetherRealm’s Ed Boon even voicing his approval of a potential film just last year. With WB Animation at the helm, the Injustice movie will join the ranks of previous works from the animation house, including last year’s Mortal Kombat: Scorpion’s Revenge and DC’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
