Sony has just announced that Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn has officially passed the 2.6 million copies sold worldwide mark, since the game’s release two weeks ago. The open-world masterpiece has been receiving rave reviews, including a rarely given perfect score from us here at DFTG. In fact, the Sony PlayStation exclusive has proven to be such an outstanding game that there are those that compare the game favorably to Nintendo’s own recently released exclusive game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. “Nintendo has Breath of the Wild, but Sony has Horizon: Zero Dawn!” That being said, it’s no surprise to hear how happy Sony is with how successful the game has proven to be. Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shawn Layden had some very positive things to say about the game:

“We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying.”

Given the all-around positive feedback and financial success HZD has enjoyed so far, Guerrilla Games has chosen the perfect time to announce that new story expansion DLC is currently being worked on. This news is much more exciting than your regular run-of-the-mill ‘DLC is coming!’ announcement, as up until now, there had been no mention of any DLC or Season Pass information from the developer.

“This is only the beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story.”

The statement above came from Guerrilla Games managing director, Hermen Hulst. While he didn’t provide any specific details on what we can expect from the expansion, hearing that this is only the beginning of Aloy’s story is wonderful news for those of us that have fallen in love with the strong female protagonist over the course of the game’s events. While we know that the expansion focuses on Aloy’s story, this does not necessarily tell us at what point in the game the upcoming expansions take place in. Depending on the expansion, the DLC could very well elaborate on Aloy’s story without necessarily existing at the end of the game’s events. Only time will tell, and there is plenty of machine hunting for us to do in the meantime.
