Hocus Pocus Confirmed to be a Remake – No Original Cast Slated to Appear (VIDEO)

Hocus Pocus

1993’s Hocus Pocus, starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, has become a staple in family Halloween films. The film centers around three witches, who are also sisters, as they seek immortality by siphoning the souls of children. That doesn’t quite sound like a family friendly movie, but you add a ton of one liners and gag jokes, and you have an instant family classic. Almost two and a half decades later, Disney has ordered a reimagining that is to be aired on the Disney Channel.

According to sources, the new Hocus Pocus is in the very early stages of production, and will not feature any of the original cast members. That means that Najimy, Midler, and Parker won’t be running “amok, amok, amok” as the Sanderson sisters. David Kirschner, who produced the original film, is set to act as executive producer, and a script written by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals). The original’s director, Kenny Ortega (who also directed Disney’s High School Musical and Descendants) will not be involved in the made-for-TV adaption.

Hocus Pocus fans may be shocked and disheartened by the announcement that the original Sanderson sisters won’t be reprising their roles. All three actresses have expressed their feelings on returning to Salem, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. In the meantime, why not take a trip down memory lane and check out one of the film’s iconic scenes below:

In the current age of reboots, remakes, and reimaginings, it’s hard to jump on board with decisions like this, but it’s also a trend that doesn’t seem to be slowing down. As far as Hocus Pocus goes, no information on a release date has been given, as of yet. It would be safe to assume that the Disney Channel TV movie will air some time around Halloween, possibly by 2018. What are your thoughts on the reimagining?
