The faint smell of pumpkin spice and candy corn is in the air, and that means the month of October is nearly upon us. While there’s still a few more days left of September, Netflix has released the list of movies and TV shows coming to the streaming service throughout the next few weeks. In the spirit of Halloween, the biggest titles to look for on Netflix October 2017 may also be the spookiest: the evil doll film Cult of Chucky, season one of the Stephen King-based series The Mist, and the greatly anticipated second season of Stranger Things.

As they always do, Netflix October 2017 will add numerous films on the first of the month. Highlights include the Johnny Depp-led Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the road trip romp Tommy Boy, and the lighthearted bro-mantic comedy I Love You, Man. For those animation lovers, Disney’s Meet the Robinsons, Smurfs: The Lost Village, and season four of Voltron: Legendary Defender should keep you covered later on in the month.

If Netflix October 2017 additions seem a bit sparse, the amount that will be leaving surely makes up the difference. Popular films such as James Cameron‘s Titanic, the Beatles-inspired musical Across the Universe, and the dancing penguin movie Happy Feet are all set to be removed from the service, as are Mortal Kombat and 2004’s Hellboy. If you’re a comedy series fan, the removals of 30 Rock, Louie, My Name Is Earl, and Malcolm in the Middle will also hit you where it hurts.

The loss of content this month is nothing compared to what will be leaving in 2019, as Disney plans to remove all of their owned content from Netflix before 2018 is over. These unfortunately include movies and series that fall under the Marvel and Star Wars banner.
