Halo: Infinite Will Be a “Spiritual Reboot” for the Franchise

Halo Infinite

The Halo franchise hasn’t done quite as well as fans and developers might like over the last few years. With Halo 5: Guardians in particular not being able to fully live up to the expectations of fans, it makes sense that 343 Industries would want to take some time to reflect on not only what to do better in the future but answer the question of what the franchise truly means for the Halo community. Halo Infinite hopes to do just that by reinventing the game for fans new and old.

The head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross recently sat down for an interview where she discussed the direction that the developers are hoping to take the franchise next. Ross explains that the upcoming Halo Infinite is aiming to a “spiritual reboot”  for the Halo series and what that means for long-tie fans.

“There has been a lot of introspective time to really reflect on what [we have] done as 343,” said Ross. “Where have we made mistakes? Where have we hit it right? What does Halo mean to all of us? That [Halo Infinite reveal] trailer we did is what Halo means to the studio.”

Maybe it took us two games to get there, and I think we’ve done good things and bad things, but what does Halo mean to us? It is about hope, and wonder, and heroism, and humanity, and community, and bringing a community together.”

343 Industries had some big shoes to fill when they took over the reigns from Bungie, and even though there have been some missteps over the years the series has done a decent job of continuing the story of the Master Chief and humanity’s fight against a dangerous and hostile universe. It will be delightful to see where the company goes from here, and it looks like they really have taken feedback from Halo 5 to heart.

Unfortunately at this time, the Xbox exclusive doesn’t  have a release date though with any luck, fans will be able to catch some more news on the title during Microsoft’s big presentation at E3 later this year.
