Halo Infinite Dev Explains Why Dual-Wielding Isn’t Returning (VIDEO)
As promised, developers 343 Industries have unleashed yet another update on Halo Infinite, with an all-new #Ask343 community Q&A presentation centered on the game’s setting of Zeta Halo. While quite a few details were dropped regarding the environments and night cycles of the ring-shaped installation, the dev roundtable also answered a few off-topic queries, namely whether or not dual-wielding weapons might be included in Halo Infinite.
This particular question was answered by lead sandbox designer Quinn Delhoyo, who disclosed that no, dual-wielding will not be featured in Halo Infinite. Confirming the feature is “not in the cards right now,” the dev explained considerable effort has been focused on refining the game’s various weapons, gunplay, and equipment items, suggesting that adding dual-wielding on top of that would be unrealistic to properly pull off at this time.
Originally introduced in Halo 2, players were finally able to operate with double the firepower for the sequel as well as its direct follow-up Halo 3. Though it wasn’t available for all weapons, exploring new gun combinations added a fun layer to the proceedings (the might of dual-needlers is especially chaotic). Dual-wielding became an instant-favorite among fans, but design overhauls forced the feature to fall by the wayside in subsequent titles, following all the way through to 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians.
While it’s a bummer that dual-wielding won’t be included when Halo Infinite launches this year, 343’s response certainly left the door open for it to arrive sometime after launch. When that date might fall is currently up in the air, but the team is demonstrating immense progress with its frequent updates to the community, which may suggest a proper release date could be around the corner, albeit, an extended, longer-than-average corner.
Halo Infinite is set to release for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in Fall 2021.
