Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Announced By Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy

Few games have been as successful, infamous and ubiquitous with video gaming in the 21st century as the Grand Theft Auto series, and it continues to fulfill those metrics well. Rumors have abounded in recent years about the series’ future, mainly in regards to the eventual Grand Theft Auto VI, which may be more than half complete. Other less-guarded rumors lately have pointed towards remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas coming much sooner than GTA VI. Now, it has been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games that a Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy will soon be a reality.

Rockstar Games released a series of tweets on their official Twitter account today that announced the new Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy. The first tweet contained the simple teaser trailer that features one silhouette each of a character from the cover art of the three classic PS2-era GTA games. The teaser then reveals the official logo for the Remastered Trilogy, labeling it as “The Definitive Edition” and saying that it is coming soon. Rockstar has acknowledged that this release will act as a celebration of the twentieth anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III.

Further tweets express the impact that Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas had on the gaming industry and medium, and confirms that remastered versions of all three games will be included in the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy. These new versions will have graphical improvements and “modern gameplay enhancements”, but will otherwise stay true to the original versions of each game. The Trilogy is set to be released some time this year for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC, but no specific release date is given. Fans have been wanting to see these classic games on modern consoles, and it appears that Rockstar has made them an offer they can’t refuse.
