Ghostbusters: Afterlife Reveals Sweet But Mischievous New Characters (VIDEO)

Ghostbusters

The original Ghostbusters film released all the way back in 1984, offering viewers an amazing supernatural comedy about an eccentric group of parapsychologists who begin a ghost-catching business. The critically acclaimed film went on to air a sequel that helped maintain its status as a cultural phenomenon. As time has gone on, multiple other projects featuring the Ghostbusters have released as well such as an animated TV show, video games, and even an attempt at a reboot, though the latter wasn’t quite as successful as its predecessors. Still, that hasn’t deterred producers from attempting to resurrect the franchise, and now a new trailer has arrived giving fans a small tasty morsel of what the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife film has in store.

The most recent trailer opens with shots of a character played by Paul Rudd gathering groceries, a seemingly ordinary affair. Unfortunately, things get weird with a bag of Stay Puft marshmallows coming to life in the form of mini versions of the iconic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the original film. It isn’t clear just how the Stay Puft Marshmallow Men play into the overall scheme of things but the film appears to be littered with goodies for fans of the original 2 films as seen in the debut trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife that premiered back in December of 2019.

The film is set 30 years after the events of Ghostbusters II, where ghosts haven’t been seen for a long time. The plot appears to center around a family who has a connection with the original Ghostbusters and a small town plagued by a mysterious string of earthquakes. The film is directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, the director for Ghostbusters 1 and 2 who now serves as the producer. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts are all set to reprise their roles in some capacity, though as to how remains to be seen.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was originally set to release in the summer of last year, though due to the pandemic the film was delayed. Now the film is set to make its debut in theaters on November 11th of this year. It’ll be interesting to see what effect the passage of time has on this iconic franchise, though with a majority of the classic cast returning it’s sure to not disappoint.
