Games Done Quick Charity Event Sets New Record With Over $1.7 Million Raised!
Gamers prove time and time again that we can do amazing things when we set our minds to it. With hundreds of charity events taking place world-wide, players globally have put their skills to the test for a good cause. The Games Done Quick charity event is no different and as the Summer festivities come to a close, the numbers are in! Collectively for the cause supporting Doctors Without Borders brings in a total of $1,776,510.79 with over 30,000 people donating.
Games Done Quick is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon where gamers can put their speedrunning skills to the test for entertainment and aiding the organization Doctors Without Borders,
Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) is an international medical humanitarian organization providing aid in nearly 70 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, exclusion from health care, natural disasters, or malnutrition. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocol. In 1999, MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work.”
The Summer 2017 event was a huge success, debunking its previous year’s accrued $1.29 million. Many games and companies participated at this year’s event with games like Nier: Automata, Okami, Portal 2, Halo Combat Evolved, Super Mario 64, Dark Souls, and many others!
The events held by Games Done Quick are a celebration of gaming culture but with a positive societal twist. There are many charity events that gamers can participate, including ones from home such as Extra Life that the DFTG team participates in every year. Have you ever “gamed for a cause” like this?
