Fortnite And Minecraft Being Used By White Supremacists To Enlist Young People

As a former member of the Chicago Area Skinheads, one of America’s oldest neo-Nazi groups, Christian Picciolini has taken to Reddit for an AMA to discuss the hate that is going on in the country these days. While many informative details were shared during the Q&A, it was also revealed that white supremacists are using video games such as Fortnite and Minecraft to help gain new recruits in younger people.

“We sought marginalized youth and promised them ‘paradise,'” said Picciolini when asked about seeing “a lot of predatory behavior on poor and disenfranchised youth” by one Reddit user. “Today they are using nefarious tactics like going to depression and mental health forums and in multiplayer gaming to recruit those same people,” he said.

Another Redditor went on to ask more about video games, questioning if white supremacists hang around Overwatch or League of Legends lobbies, playing and recruiting, and exactly how they go about it. “They drop benign hints and then ramp up when hooked,” Picciolini said. “Fortnite, Minecraft, COD, all of them. Yes, mostly foreign recruiters from Russia and eastern Europe and Poland.”

To say that is worrying would be an understatement. After all, two of the most active communities in gaming belong to Fortnite and Minecraft. Just be aware of anyone trying to lure young people in with hate speech and report them as soon as possible. To read the whole AMA, which is filled to the brim with some interesting information, you can do so right here.
