Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update Lets You Play As Ignis, Prompto, And Gladiolus (VIDEO)

Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update

Earlier this year Square Enix sent out a survey asking Final Fantasy XV players what they would like to see out of later updates to the game. Some of the survey options offered a bigger look into the FFXV world of Eos, while others offered new playable characters placed into the main campaign of the game, such as Cor, Aranea, and Iris. Apparently the survey results must have been inconclusive, because as revealed in the latest Active Time Report broadcast in Tokyo featuring FFXV director Hajime Tabata, Square Enix is going with a little bit of everything. In the below Active Time Report, Tabata reveals the details of the upcoming Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update, while also revealing that new story DLC is coming to the game next year.

We have some good news for those of you that enjoyed playing as Gladiolus and Prompto in their DLC episodes, with Ignis soon to be added to that list. According to FFXV development manager Daisuke Oe, the upcoming Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update will allow players to almost seamlessly switch between playing as Noctis and playing as any of his three friends. Each character will play almost exactly like they did in their DLC episodes, with the update arriving at some point this December, likely after Episode Ignis is released. One exciting aspect of the update is the possibility of throwing in new playable characters in the future, such as the previously mentioned Aranea, Iris, and Cor. Each of these characters can be made to work within the confines of the story, at least in the open world. Check out the trailer below to see the character swap feature in action:

In addition to the Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update news, it was also revealed that a new batch of at least three “Episode” DLC is coming next year, the first of which is Episode Ardyn, which will offer a deeper dive into the world of Eos. There is currently no word on what to expect from the other two episodes that will come after, thought it was mentioned during the presentation that there is a high demand for more Lunafreya-based story content. Square Enix also announced a few other tidbits related to Final Fantasy XV, which can be found listed below:

Final Fantasy XV: Comrades

  • December 12 version 1.1.0 update coming to address leveling bugs, quest bugs, and new Time Limited Quests.
  • New “Witch’s Shop” which will provide buffs normally given through meals in exchange for currency acquired during Time Limited Quests.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis

  • The upcoming December 12 DLC can be cleared in roughly two hours, and will include twice as many story cutscenes as Episode Prompto.
  • An Extra Battle feature is also included in the DLC – will allow the player-controlled Ignis to battle against Noctis.

Final Fantasy XV is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Windows Edition PC version is arriving in early 2018. So, thoughts on the upcoming Final Fantasy XV Anniversary Update?
