Final Fantasy XIV Dev Team Yelled At Yoko Taro For His “Crazy Writing”
If there is one certainty in this world, it’s that we can rely on NieR: Automata creator Yoko Taro to shake things up and act as the full-on embodiment of the unexpected, which apparently got him into some trouble recently with the Final Fantasy XIV dev team. During the development of the collaboration raid between Final Fantasy XIV and NieR: Automata, the team working on YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse ended up yelling at Yoko Taro for some of his “crazy” writing.
The intriguing bit of humor comes by way of a recent Final Fantasy XIV developer diary series entry, which features interviews with Yaoki Yoshida, Yosuke Saito, and Yoko Taro. At the beginning of the video, Taro is asked by Saito if there were different rules he had to follow when creating the story for the collaboration event. Taro admitted that he had some trouble adhering to the unique rules of an ongoing MMO, revealing that he got yelled at by the team because he was going to have the Warrior of Light do “something crazy.”
Later on in the interview, the trio discuss what’s next for the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse raid event. Yoko Taro jokes that there are still “156 parts” of the raid for them to develop, with Yosuke Saito chiming in to suggest that, at the very end, FFXIV players should lose all the NieR-inspired outfits they had gathered thus far in order for it to be “like the [NieR] game,” confirming what we had already suspected: that Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro really are two sides of the same coin.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC and PlayStation 4.
