Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Physical Edition Seemingly Confirmed
It looks like Square Enix may be working overtime on the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. Announced in a surprise reveal following the overwhelming amount of Final Fantasy VII Remake footage on display at E3 2019, the remastered version of the game is slated to arrive later this year. Now, a new leak suggests that there will be a physical edition available as well.
The news comes by way of online retailer Play-Asia, which recently opened pre-orders for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. Oddly enough, the pre-order lists also include physical editions for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, suggesting that fans will literally be able to get their hands on the game once it releases. One thing to note is that the price is a bit high even for a physical release, though the actual price could be a suggested placeholder until Square Enix confirms a suggested retail value.
As we previously covered, there’s even more to sort through in terms of what we can and can’t expect from Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. According to the source code for the remaster, the upcoming title will also feature voice acting, both in English and Japanese. The original game didn’t have any voiceovers whatsoever, which makes this a bit questionable. Then again, it is possible that the voiceovers will be reserved for cutscenes, not unlike what Sony did with The Legend of Dragoon.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is slated to release at some point this year for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
