Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Multiplayer Will Be Region Locked
It looks like the highly anticipated Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition won’t be without its limitations. Originally announced back in 2018, it’s now been revealed that multiplayer matchmaking for the title will be region locked.
The news comes by way of the folks over at DualShockers, which discovered some interesting fine print over on the official Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition website. According to the website, “In online multiplayer mode, a player will only be matched with others in the region specific to player’s software.” There’s not much else to say about Square Enix’s decision other than that it feels like a rather pointless restriction.
As one would expect, those looking to play the game on PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch will also need to have a paid subscription through their respective consoles in order to participate in multiplayer. “Online multiplayer mode requires an internet connection and either: Nintendo Switch – free registration to a Nintendo account and a paid subscription to ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ service; or PlayStation 4 — free registration to PlayStation Network and a paid subscription to PlayStation Plus.” Again, this is all typical par for the course, though combining that with the newly revealed region locked multiplayer makes it a bit of a downer.
As for the game’s finer points, the Remastered Edition brings with it HD graphics, English voiceovers, some much needed UI enhancements, and more. Those looking to learn more or pre-order the title can do so right here. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is slated to release on August 27th for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS devices.
