Fight the Flood in the Upcoming DLC for Halo Wars 2 (VIDEO)

Flood

While it may have been disappointing that the next big Halo game didn’t make it into E3 this year, the franchise did see a little love. Today, during the Xbox Daily Show, a new DLC was revealed to be on the way for Halo Wars 2 called Awakening the Nightmare. The expansion sees the return of the Flood in a new brutal campaign as well as introduces new multiplayer leaders, a new cooperative experience, and more.

The new campaign will expand upon the story of the main game, allowing players to battle from the perspective of the Banished as they struggle to fight against the infamous and terrifying Flood. This campaign will have gorgeous cinematics done by Blur Studio, the same people behind the amazing cutscenes of Halo 2: Anniversary while the expansion itself is done by Creative Assembly, who were rumored to be working on a Flood-focused Halo game called Gravemind earlier this year. Check out the video below for more about the upcoming DLC:

The theme of the new DLC is all about the Flood and the Banished, and as such, the upcoming expansion will introduce two new Banished leaders as well as two new standard multiplayer maps, the latter of which will be free for all players. Fans of Firefight will be pleased to see that “Awakening the Nightmare” will feature a RTS styled variation to Halo Wars 2. In Terminus Firefight, three players are tasked with defending not only their bases, but also a central Forerunner terminus node against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. This co-op mode will be playable against the UNSC, Banished, and Flood, adding a tower-defense style to the beloved Halo styled horde mode with new defenses to build alongside classic Halo Wars gameplay.

On the show floor during E3, fans will be able to play as the next two playable Leaders, the Spartan 2 leader of Red Team, Jerome-092, and Arbiter Ripa ‘Moramee, the prime antagonist of the first Halo Wars with a Banished twist. Awakening the Nightmare will be available this fall for PC and Xbox One for a price of $20, and it is not included in the season pass.
