Family Guy GoldenEye 007 Homage Pays Tribute To The Classic FPS (VIDEO)

Family Guy GoldenEye

Family Guy is now in its seventeenth season on Fox, and the series shows no signs of slowing down on its pop culture references. The joke-delivering device helped propel Family Guy into a cult favorite in its early seasons that then became one of the biggest shows on television and the internet. The series has featured many recurring jokes fixated on subjects like Conway Twitty and Spider-Man, and Seth MacFarlane’s team has been no stranger to video game references in the past. This time, they brought their focus to the Nintendo 64 with a Family Guy GoldenEye 007 sequence that pays homage to the classic first-person shooter.

The Family Guy GoldenEye sequence from this week’s new episode can be seen above from Bits&Gags on YouTube. The episode titled “The Griffin Winter Games,” sees Peter ending up in a North Korean prison with Meg coming to his rescue. As they prepare to break out, Meg claims that they must do so in the style of a video game, to which Peter requests that the game be none other than GoldenEye. We then see a dossier file appear on-screen, very similar to the ones preceding each mission in the 64-bit game.

The animation style then turns into 3D polygonal models, albeit cleaned up ones compared to the N64 to look better for television, and stays mostly in first-person view like the game. Meg then shoots down many North Korean soldiers, as Peter makes clever referential quips like “It’s less sad cause they don’t bleed” and “These guys are terrible shots.” The two quickly make their escape through a tunnel grate that Meg shoots the bolts off of. This is certainly a fun little tribute to a very beloved game, and hopefully we see more like it from Family Guy in the future.

Maybe next time Peter and the Chicken will fight with Slappers Only. What do you guys think about this Family Guy GoldenEye sequence? Let us know in the comments below!
