Fallout 76 Confirmed to Have More Voice Lines Than Previous Titles, Despite No Human NPCs

Fallout 76 Voice Lines

Fallout 76 has the franchise’s fans drooling with anticipation, especially considering how close it is from its release date. Many new details about the game have been revealed in the past few weeks, both directly by Bethesda and those lucky enough to attend preview events for the game. We’ve seen how online play will affect core Fallout aspects like the VATS system, and how this game will lack one particular inclusion, human NPCs. Given this exclusion, many have expected the game to minimally use voice actors, but now it seems that the opposite may be true. Bethesda has now said that the number of Fallout 76 voice lines will be greater than any previous Fallout game.

As reported on ComicBook.com, Bethesda has confirmed that the unique voice lines recorded for and included in Fallout 76 outnumber every Fallout game released thus far, even without human NPCs to deliver dialogue. It appears that a large reason for this will be the numerous holotapes that players will be able to find throughout the game’s map.

These tapes, when played on the player’s Pip-Boy, will recount tales of survivors in the nuclear wastelands, and for many, how they met their unfortunate demises and downfalls. They will also help provide narrative backgrounds for the environments and help paint a picture of the game’s environment before the player left Vault 76.

We’ve heard from Bethesda before that the player character’s focus on human interaction is meant to be directed towards other real-life players, so it certainly makes sense for the recorded dialogue to be prioritized elsewhere. These holotapes definitely sound like they will cater to those looking more for narrative and world-building seekers playing this game, giving a vibe like BioShock’s messages from Andrew Ryan or the human-shaped lights in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Hopefully these holotapes also come with spoken word renditions of Take Me Home, Country Roads, while they are at it.
