Elden Ring Creator “Most Proud” Of A Boss From Demon’s Souls
The Dark Souls trilogy and other assorted souls-like titles by FromSoftware contain a myriad of bosses and pain in the ass baddies designed to continually challenge players to adapt and overcome. Now, with the latest souls game Elden Ring looming on the horizon, creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has circled back to reveal that the boss he’s “most proud” of is from one of the developer’s earlier games, Demon’s Souls.
In a recent interview on the PlayStation Blog, Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke about some of the bosses he was particularly proud of. While there are a few that stand out to him, Miyazaki revealed that he is most proud of the Old Monk boss fight from Demon’s Souls. “If we’re talking about a boss that I’m ‘most proud of’ (to use those specific words), it would probably be the Old Monk from Demon’s Souls,” Miyazaki revealed. “The reason being is there was a lot of pushback against that design and what we were trying to do with it. But it was something I really, really wanted to do. I wanted to get that boss concept into the game, both from a visual design perspective and gameplay perspective, including the multiplayer element.”
From both the implementation and fun factor, we got a lot of pushback, and no one believed in it at the time. But in the end, we came through, and I think it turned into an intriguing boss that the fans appreciated.”
Of course, those that have played through the other Dark Souls games will likely recognize that a similar pvp mechanic is used multiple times throughout the trilogy, with Looking Glass Knight (Dark Souls 2) and Halflight, Spear of the Church springing to mind. Those that want to square off against Miyazaki’s favorite, though, can do so in the Demon’s Souls Remake, which is now available on the PlayStation 5.
Elden Ring is slated to release on February 25, 2022.
