Popular Dungeons and Dragons Character Meets His End (VIDEO)
Games are strange when it comes to death, allowing players to revive or re-loading the last save in which the character was alive. That being said, tabletop is an entirely different world and fans get attached to characters enough that when they die for good it can be absolutely devastating.
For example, the recent death of the Tiefling Blood Hunter Mollymauk Tealeaf in the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role struck a blow to fans that they were not prepared for. Now Penny Arcade fans will be crushed to learn that the popular Dwarven Fighter/Barbarian Binwin ‘Bronzebottom’ has met a terrible fate as well.
Binwin Bronzebottom was one of the founding members of Acquisitions Inc. which was one of the earliest Dungeons and Dragons podcasts and one that’s been a fan favorite for a long time. The show was originally organized by Wizards of the Coast and the creative team of the popular webcomic Penny Arcade back in 2008 as a way of introducing the “Fourth Edition” ruleset. Binwin could often be seen taking the brunt of the damage as the Tank of the group but eventually retired after 9 years. The player of Bronzebottom, Scott Kurtz, has since started a spin-off comic drawn and written by Tavis Maiden called Binwin’s Minions which tells the tale of Bronzebottom and a ragtag group of hopeless recruits.
Unfortunately while making a guest appearance on Dice, Camera, Action – which is the flagship show for the Dungeons & Dragons Twitch channel – the dwarf fell to the legendary Beholder known as Xanathar. Bronzebottom had joined up with Dice, Camera, Action’s Waffle Crew but was petrified by the Beholder and later disintegrated by Xanathar’s deadly eye stalk rays. The character didn’t go out without a fight however and his final Javelin throw was enough to strike Xanathar’s central eye and blind the Beholder enough to allow the rest of the party time to escape.
While many fans are mourning the loss of their favorite Dwarven Fighter/Barbarian, Kurtz appears to be staying fairly lighthearted on the matter. He recently posted a short animation on social media which comically immortalizes the fateful end of the character:

So ends the tale of Binwin Bronzbottom, though it does seem to be a fitting warrior’s end for the character. Were you a fan of Scott Kurtz’s Dwarven character?
