Dead Island 2 Still in Development According to a Recent Job Posting
It has been awhile since there’s been any news on Dead Island 2, the product has been speculated to be completely dead in the water since any developments have been completely under wraps. Since 2014, the game has suffered many setbacks, including multiple delays and a developer change. Thankfully, the title is still being made as evidenced within a job listing for QA Testers on an undisclosed AAA project in pre-production. There, a small blurb mentions recent successes and current projects, one of which was Dead Island 2.
Our most recent successes include Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox 360), LittleBigPlanet 3 (PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3) and Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box Speedway (multi-platform). We are also incredibly proud to be working on the highly anticipated Crackdown 3 (Xbox One) and Dead Island 2 (multi-platform) plus several other exciting but yet unannounced projects.
After it was announced in 2014, Dead Island 2 fell victim to a wide variety of road bumps that affected work on the title. After a split with its previous developer and Deep Silver, production was moved to Sumo Digital in 2016. During an interview with MCV, Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media, said:
Dead Island is a very key IP for us. It put us on the map in the first place. We have big plans for the franchise with several projects in development. Dead Island 2 is obviously announced and is making fantastic progress at Sumo. We’re looking forward to showing off the game to our fans when it is ready.
Since then, all has been quiet on the Dead Island front, until this most recent job posting. While it doesn’t give any indication as to the status of production on the game, at the very least it looks like it is still being made. Maybe Sumo Digital is re-creating the game from scratch.
