DC’s Deathstroke In Early Development For Standalone Feature Film
Warner Bros. and DC Comics have had some frequent ups and downs in their attempts to create and sustain the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) shared-world movie-verse. A lot of those waves are coming from the Gotham Knight’s solo film, The Batman. Originally, the film was to be written, directed, and starred in by Ben Affleck. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’ll be doing any of those things. To further those notions, it has just been revealed that the supposed villain of The Batman, Deathstroke, may be getting his very own feature film.
According to sources, director Gareth Evans (The Raid) is in early talks to bring a Deathstroke film to theaters. Evans plans to write and direct the comic book villain’s movie. True Blood and How I Met Your Mother actor, Joe Manganiello, appears to be starring as the assassin, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. It seems his attachment from the illusive Batman film has carried over to give the character some well-deserved screen time.
Last year when Batfleck was still very much involved with the solo Batman film, he had posted a video to Twitter which featured actor Joe Manganiello suited up as DC’s Deathstroke. The film appeared to be some test footage. Affleck’s post came with no captions, but the internet exploded with speculations of the character being tied to The Batman. Unfortunately, with the way things have been going, it doesn’t look like anything from the original plan will be happening.

Marv Wolfman and George Perez created Deathstroke for DC Comics back in 1980. The New Teen Titans #2 marked the very first appearance of the mercenary, where he became a popular villain. The 90s is where Deathstroke really started to shine. He’s taken on the likes of the Justice League, as well as individual heroes and other villains. According to DC lore, he is considered the top assassin, even beating out Deadshot. He’s also the original inspiration for Marvel’s “Merc With a Mouth”, Deadpool. The character was an antagonist on CW’s Arrow, where he spent an entire season terrorizing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. He’s been heavily featured throughout DC Comics, and even made an appearance on the first Injustice game.
With the constant state of flux WB and DC are experiencing with the DCEU, and the fact that there has been no official announcement, take the news with a grain of salt. In the meantime, don’t miss Justice League next month, where we’ll see some of DC’s top heroes team up to kick some serious ass. How badly do you want to see a Deathstroke movie? Do you think Joe Manganiello is suited for the part? What other villains would you like to see get their own movie? Let us know in the comments section below.
