Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 Next-Gen Updates Officially Delayed
Due to get significant overhauls later this year, a newly-announced update from CD Projekt RED has confirmed both next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are now getting delayed. After recently noting several pandemic-related complications, a delay announcement was made from the developer’s official Twitter account, setting up the two title’s next-gen releases for some time during the first and second quarters of 2022.
“Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022,” the CD Projekt statement read. “Our current target for Cyberpunk 2077 is the first quarter of 2022, and second quarter of 2022 for the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” In addition, the team closed out the note by expressing “apologies for the extended wait” as well as the desire to “make it right” for the fans.

Over the past year, these next-gen updates have been two of CDPR’s main promises lining the horizon following the controversial launch of Cyberpunk 2077. As the studio focused its efforts to stomp out every major bug and glitch in the futuristic RPG, several projects have been temporarily pushed aside to accommodate, including a spin-off multiplayer component and new story DLC, as well as the inevitable next Witcher game in development.
Intended for release on PC and the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles, not much is known about the specifics of the Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade. However, the next-gen Witcher 3 is another story, and while it’s not too much more, the new version of the sprawling fantasy title already has official cover art and is confirmed to include all previous DLC as well as modern enhancements like ray tracing and faster load times. The title will also receive DLC based on the series’ Henry Cavill-led Netflix adaptation.
