Destiny 2 Won’t Let Players Customize Imported Destiny Characters

Destiny Characters

Next month’s arrival of Destiny 2 will be a bittersweet one for those that have been playing developer Bungie’s original Destiny.  On the one hand, veteran players can look forward to a completely new game that they can enjoy with their imported Destiny characters.  On the other, Destiny 2 will reset virtually everything else, so any accomplishments made in the original game will for the most part be inconsequential.  Up until now, players have been assuming that their imported Destiny characters will have access to the same character customization options available to those creating new characters.  Unfortunately, this is incorrect.  In a recent post on Bungie.net, it has been revealed that players importing their Destiny characters into the sequel will be unable to further customize their characters.

“No. There is currently no plan to allow players to edit the customization options of an imported Character.”

Destiny Characters

This is disappointing news, as while there is currently no information on the character customization options available in Destiny 2, it is all but universally believed that there will be enhancements to the sequel not seen in the original game.  Players spend a great deal of time in MMORPGs customizing their avatars and getting their characters to look ‘just right’.  Playing as a character whose looks you aren’t happy with will be irksome at best.

The ability to customize imported game characters isn’t exactly a far-fetched feature, either.  The Mass Effect series – specifically Mass Effect 2 – did a phenomenal job in regards to importing a player’s customized Shepard into the game, while at the same time allowing for further customization through the new game.  BioWare even wrapped the ability to customize your character into the story.  It is disappointing to see that Bungie does not see the value in character customization options for imported players.  Hopefully the developer will have a change of heart and add the feature in, whether it be before the game’s launch on September 6, or at a later date.

So, thoughts on the lack of character customization options for players importing their characters in from Destiny?  In light of this, are you planning on creating a new character instead?  Let us know in the comments section below, and as always, stay tuned to DFTG for all the latest gaming and entertainment news!  Don’t forget to follow Don’t Feed the Gamers on Twitter for our 24/7 news feed!
