Charlie Day Wants To Star In Luigi’s Mansion Movie
Hollywood is full of video game adaptation projects these days, with one of the biggest for this year being the Super Mario Bros. animated movie being made by Universal Pictures and Nintendo. The project especially made the internet explode with the announcement of its voice cast, particularly with Chris Pratt being cast as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi. It has also been rumored that this may be the first of many films in a sort of Mario (or even greater Nintendo) cinematic universe. Now, Charlie Day has suggested that he would be open to starring in a Luigi’s Mansion movie.
Charlie Day recently spoke with ComicBook.com about his career, with his voiceover work as Luigi for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie being the most relevant to the site. Rumors have indicated that Seth Rogen may be reprising his role as Donkey Kong from this Super Mario movie in a spinoff movie focused on the Donkey Kong Country characters. With that in mind, the interviewer wondered if perhaps a Luigi’s Mansion spinoff might be in the cards, and if Day would reprise his role for it. When asked, here’s what Day had to say:
Yeah, my son was just playing Luigi’s Mansion the other day on his Switch. Look, I’m thrilled to get the opportunity, I grew up playing Super Mario Brothers as did everyone I know so, we’ll see! It’s like anything else in life, I’ll go if I’m invited!’
While this does not confirm that a Luigi’s Mansion movie is in the works, it is good to know that Charlie Day is both familiar with the game and is open to working on such a project. Day is quite well known at this point for his work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, though his voice acting career has been growing steadily the past decade as well. Hopefully he gets a shot at his own spinoff so he can Poltergust up some spectors. And let’s get Christopher Lloyd as the voice of Professor E. Gadd while we’re at it.
