Original Call Of Duty Warzone Map ‘Gone And Not Coming Back’ (VIDEO)
Upon the start of its latest Season 3, Call of Duty Warzone has undergone a massive change to Verdansk, taking the war-ravaged battleground back to the 80s for the all-new Verdansk 84 map. Having left the previous version behind in a particularly explosive fashion, developer Raven Software has now confirmed this new throwback iteration is here to stay for the foreseeable future, even going as far as to say the previous Verdansk wouldn’t be available to play again.
“Current-day Verdansk, they’ll never play in that state again. Current day Verdansk is gone and it’s not coming back.” associate creative director Amos Hodge said in a recent developer video. “It’s 1984 and it’s springtime. This is a completely different feel and vibe than wintertime current-day Verdansk. Seven all-new locations. There’s five existing locations with brand-new layouts.” Covering many of the biggest new changes to Warzone, the full showcase can be viewed below.
Raven has been building to a new season of Call of Duty Warzone for a while, with a zombie invasion slowly crawling its way across the modern-day Verdansk. This past weekend saw the hordes culminate to “critical levels” as the entire map not only became infested, but downed players also forwent the Gulag to become one with the undead themselves. The event closed off with a bang when a nuke descended and completely obliterated Verdansk, effectively ending the zombie invasion in the process.

In its wake, a new battle royale map has arrived, though, it may not be entirely unfamiliar to frequenters of Warzone. Jumping back to the past, players will now find themselves in ‘Verdansk 84’ a retro version of the modern map designed to more neatly integrate with the 80s-set Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. As such, the time-traveled locale now includes altered locations, new secrets, and an overarching story event that ties into the campaign of Black Ops Cold War.
