A few weeks ago, Bungie had confirmed that Destiny 2 would run at 30 FPS on the PlayStation 4 Pro as the console isn’t powerful enough to run at 60 FPS. During Geoff Keighley’s livestream at E3, the director of the sequel, Luke Smith, confirmed that Xbox One X’s Destiny 2 would also only run at 30 FPS. To some, this has come as a surprise considering it will be the most powerful console released when it arrives later this year.

When first revealed that the Xbox One X‘s Destiny 2 would only run at 30 FPS, Microsoft took to making comments about their competitor. From what could be gathered, it seemed as though they were accusing Sony of forcing Bungie to limit their frame rate. While this is speculative, it remains to be seen if the console, while indeed powerful, could run the game at 60 FPS.

News that Xbox One X’s Destiny 2 is set at 30 FPS has had some asking why Microsoft doesn’t offer the higher rate. Others are also beginning to speculate that Sony forced Bungie’s hand, while others question the ability of the console to handle the game at all. Ultimately, fans will have to decide for themselves when the console releases.

While FPS is an important aspect of a game, many titles have won over enormous fanbases and had mediocre graphics. Anticipation for what Bungie is bringing to the table definitely overrides the fact that Xbox One X’s Destiny 2 is only able to run at 30 FPS. It would seem as though a small faction of the fandom is truly concerned with the frame rate.

Destiny 2 will feature new worlds and planets for players to explore. Bungie has also made a lot of promises concerning the new addition to the franchise. Better multiplayer, more content, and a good story are all in store for players upon the release of the game October 24th. While frame rate is important, ultimately it’s the gameplay that matters and Bungie is looking to deliver either way.
