Let’s face it, it has been an incredibly long wait for an official Borderlands 3 reveal. Now that we have our official first look, though, many have begun to wonder what other goodies Gearbox Software may be planning for the game that is said to sport over a billion guns. That said, looking back, it is actually possible that one of these guns may be Elon Musk’s flamethrower.

Over a year ago, the eccentric Elon Musk created a product aptly titled “Not a Flamethrower” (but basically was) and sold it to the public, because, like I said, eccentric. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, who also happens to be fairly eccentric in his own right (I’m glad you’re seeing where I’m going with this) responded to one of Musk’s Tweets last year and got the ball rolling on what may just be the best collaboration ever. Elon – I’m going to add this to our next Borderlands game. Super serious. Let me know if you want to write the flavor text. You may have already done so – we’ll just lift it from one of your tweets.

If there are any issues reading the above, Pitchford stated that he’s “going to add this [flamethrower] to our next Borderlands game,” and that he is “super serious,” even offering to let Elon Musk write the flavor text. Granted, just because Randy Pitchford says he’s going to do something doesn’t mean he will, but would it really be that surprising? Naturally, Elon Musk agreed in a followup tweet:

So, it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye out for a brief mention by Gearbox that the upcoming Borderlands 3 will in fact include a flamethrower, and we can only hope that it doesn’t cost exorbitant amounts of money. Borderlands 3 is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a release date set to be revealed tomorrow.
