Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Dev Reveals How To Make 'Zombies' Weapons Stronger

The season of the witch is fully upon us, and with the recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, there’s no better way of celebrating it than jumping into a few ‘Zombies’ matches with some friends. Players are of course already kicking apart the game’s battle royale ‘Blackout’ and ‘Zombies’ modes, though those that have been playing the latter have been noticing that the weapons this time around appear to be weaker than usual.

Some fans voiced their concerns about weak ‘Zombies’ weapons during a Treyarch AMA on Reddit, which the developer responded to in a recent stream on Twitch. During the stream, Treyarch’s senior executive producer Jason Blundell revealed that there was a semi-hidden damage boost mechanic in ‘Zombies’ mode in the form of the Pack-a-Punch machine, a mechanic introduced back in Black Ops 2 that allows players to boost the damage output of their weapons. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“They are completely missing a very important point which is: every time you re-pack with a Pack-a-Punch Machine, you get a 25 percent increase on the damage,” Blundell said. “Which you can do four times, ’cause it’s Black Ops 4. So, everyone’s only packing twice right now and going ‘These weapons are garbage, I can’t kill anything.’ Well, maybe you should re-pack it. Keep it going.”

Back when Black Ops 2 released, players had to learn how to use the Pack-a-Punch machines on their own, so introducing a higher cap on said machines without telling anybody about it seems to be par for the course for Treyarch. Thankfully, the zombie cat is officially out of the bag, and fans now know that they can use the Pack-a-Punch machines to upgrade their weapons a total of four times, increasing the damage up to 100%. Here’s hoping that’ll be enough to stem the tide of flesh-eating zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
