A Batman Easter Egg has been Discovered in Mass Effect: Andromeda!

Mass Effect: Andromeda Batman Easter Egg

Mass Effect: Andromeda has only been out for about a week now, and fans of BioWare’s latest action-RPG have already been clamoring to uncover all the secrets and Easter eggs hidden within the game. Some of the Easter eggs are obvious (but very much appreciated) callbacks to the original Mass Effect trilogy, like Dr. Liara T’Soni’s audio logs aboard the Nexus, or the collectible Normandy SR-2 replica model that Ryder can display on the Tempest. Others are a bit more subtle, like the discussion between Jaal and Peebee where the Afterlife nightclub is referenced. Not to mention all the non-Mass Effect Easter eggs that are in the game, like the Plants Vs Zombies plushies that can be found on a bunk aboard the Tempest, or that Batman Easter egg everybody’s been talking about.

Wait a second, did someone say Batman? That’s right, there’s a freaking Batman Easter egg in Mass Effect: Andromeda. The Caped Crusader connection was discovered by Reddit user Mazorr, who took a screenshot of the game while on the desert planet of Elaaden. While he initially took the screenshot because he “thought it looked awesome,” he took a look at it later and found that the geography seen in the photo bears a rather striking resemblance to a promotional poster for Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises. Both shots utilize the surrounding structures to depict the iconic Bat symbol. Check it out below… you can almost hear the Hans Zimmer score from the movie playing in the background:

You have to admit, the resemblance really is uncanny. Even most of the folks over on the Mass Effect: Andromeda subreddit have come to the conclusion that this was an intentional reference, and this is Reddit we’re talking about here. Some of the comments are actually pretty funny, like “Batman uses remtek confirmed” from one Reddit user. Another Reddit user takes it in a completely different direction, saying “Has to be”, which a different user responded to with “Someone else might have gotten it wrong?” We miss you, Mordin.

There is currently no word from BioWare as to whether or not the Batman Easter egg was intentional. The game has only been out for a week now, so, we may be in for a long wait before someone from the company steps in and gives us the final word. In the meantime, those of us playing through Mass Effect: Andromeda should continue to keep an eye out for cool Easter eggs like these while navigating Ryder through the Helius cluster. Because she’s the hero Andromeda deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we’ll hunt her. Because she can take it. Because she’s not our hero. She’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Pathfinder.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is now available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

So, what are your thoughts on the Batman Easter egg? Do you think BioWare intentionally put it in? What other cool Easter eggs have you found so far?
