With quick clips of motion capture work, animation, scenic inspiration for Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s no sure way of telling what they’ll share with fans. One can certainly hope for a release date alongside development updates and other juicy information to come next month. In previous reports, Larian Studios and company mentioned the game will feature over 100 hours of content time and the return of familiar characters.
Furthermore, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the studio’s largest RPG they’ve ever developed. “This is the biggest RPG we’ve ever made, so our team is now over 200 people internally and together with all the externals, we’re heading over 300 people,” said Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke to GameSpot. “It’s a very big production. It’s the biggest that we’ve ever done.”
Compared to its predecessors, the upcoming game will be “somewhat darker” and more serious. “But serious topics work much better if there’s a little bit of humour in there, and Dungeons and Dragons is about having fun at the tabletop,” Vincke explained in an interview. “So that means there is going to be stuff that will make you smile.”
That sounds good to me. In the meantime, if you’re trying to placate your hankering for Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions are available on the Nintendo Switch, as well as Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights.
