Anthem Single Player Benefits Weighed Against Multiplayer By Developer

As 2018 comes to a close, gamers are eagerly looking forward to the big titles coming in 2019. Luckily for impatient gamers, one of the most highly anticipated will be one of the first to arrive next year. This of course would be Anthem, the newest IP by fan-favorite developer BioWare. While this new game will feature multiplayer capabilities greater than any other BioWare game that has come before, we do know playing solo will be supported. Given the variety of play styles available, one BioWare team member has spoken about the benefits of Anthem single player gameplay versus that of playing with a squad.

As shared on WCCFTech, BioWare Producer Thomas Singleton recently spoke with the Official PlayStation Magazine about the big upcoming game. According to Singleton, while BioWare is allowing for lone wolves to make their way through the game, Anthem has been designed with a greater focus on squad-based gameplay, as he states:

We’re pushing team dynamics, that’s where the game really begins to sell. Where the product shines is playing as that squad, you’re working together as a unit to go and conquer various missions. If you want to play the experience solo that’s your option, [but] it probably won’t be as rewarding, you won’t have that team dynamic. The game will scale based on whether you’re by yourself or playing with three other people.”

Singleton also mentions that they looked at similar pre-existing games such as Destiny 2 to know what to copy, and to find things that these games are not doing that they can provide themselves. Hopefully BioWare finds the right audience to serve with Anthem so that the game has a long lifespan. It’s good to know they’re not just throwing Javelins out into the dark.
