Analyst Predictions Show That a Next-Gen PlayStation System Could Launch in 2018
Analyst predictions are nothing new for any market, and the gaming circuit is no exception. Though many of the information revealed by these analysts prove to be accurate, at the end of the day, they are simply predictions – so take this with a grain of salt. The latest prediction comes from the Wall Street Journal detailed by the Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong and he predicts that Sony can be expected to “release its next-generation PlayStation by the second half of 2018.”
Analyst who correctly predicted PS4 Pro and Slim says next-generation PS would be released…https://t.co/mWTZzuRSSS

Thong was also the same analyst that predicted the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Slim prior to any official announcements were leaked, so there is some credibility there. Even still, it is just a prediction at this time, no confirmation has been provided by the Sony camp.
Previously with the PlayStation 4, that system was not announced until 9 months before the actual release, so it is unlikely that if there is truth to this prediction, that we’ll hear anything at this year’s E3. It would be strange to release something in an entirely new ball park so soon after the release of the Pro, though the timing might actually be a stroke of genius. With the upcoming hype surrounding the Project Scorpio mega-machine coming from the Xbox side, a next-generation PlayStation 4 would definitely take back that spotlight. That being said, from a business standpoint within Sony – it could be detrimental.
The PlayStation systems have already been topping the sales charts, there’s no real reason to release something this early on, with the exception of a competition take-down. Time will tell, and this year’s E3 is right around the corner for any teasers that may be hidden.
What do you think about this PlayStation system prediction? Do you think Thong is on to something, or do you think it’s still way too early for a next-gen launch?
