The video game movie scene is preparing for another installment, this time with an action heroine we all grew to love taking the scene. The reboot of the Tomb Raider series was announced not too long ago, and with it came the announcement that Oscar Winning actress Alicia Vikander would be donning the iconic garb to kick some serious backside as the Tomb Raider that won the hearts of fans since the 90’s. Previously, we got a chance to see Vikander in action in some on-set photos, which only fueled our impatience as we wait for the reboot’s 2018 release date to finally roll around.

Now, Vanity Fair has released some new photos of Vikander in character, this time the images looking a little more staged for the film, rather than shot by an intrepid photographer from behind the scenes. With the photo releases, we also got a chance to hear about the actress’ experiences after she was cast in a role that so many young girls can look up to.

When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character. I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass! She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill. ~ Alicia Vikander, via Email to Vanity Fair

Since the announcement that Vikander would be taking on the role of Lara Croft, a few other actors have also been announced to help helm the film’s story, including Dominic West and Daniel Wu. So far, it’s looking like this film is shaping up to be one hell of a story given that it will be based within the timeline of the reboot in recent years, so we’re all keeping our fingers crossed that Tomb Raider does better in the box office than previous attempts from the past.
