Alan Wake, For Honor Going Free For Limited Time On Epic Games Store

For months now Epic Games’ emerging marketplace has been boasting a bevy of free game releases, with the number of costless offerings increasing frequency as of late. Bi-monthly freebies moved up to weekly earlier this month and were effectively doubled when Epic began outputting two free games per week. Though a double-dose of titles would be plenty to occupy most PC gamers’ time, the Epic Games Store now appears to be going even bigger with the addition of two new freebies: Alan Wake and For Honor.

Confirming the news over social media, Epic announced both games are set to go free next month starting August 2nd at 11 a.m. EDT, the promotion expiring at the same time on August 9th. Such well-known games like Alan Wake and For Honor going for $0 is pretty noteworthy as most Epic freebies have been largely relegated to the indie realm, past examples including Subnautica, City of Brass, and Limbo. Perhaps this ramping-up of the Epic Store will see the trend of AAA giveaways continue, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

While For Honor and Alan Wake are to set sail on the “no-charge barge” in August, another Epic duo of free games has gone live in the meantime. Starting today, players can pick up vibrant pixelated RPG Moonlighter and bleak survival title This War of Mine for free, the promotion officially meeting its end on August 2nd. It should be noted that the Epic Store only offers base games for free, extra DLC such as Moonlighter’s new Between Dimensions expansion still retaining their usual prices.
